With masterly understatement Geoff Hunt describes his painting as showing "An exceptionally interesting collection of vessels in San Fiorenzo Bay, Corsica, on the evening of 11th June 1796."

He goes on to elaborate: "On that day Commodore Nelson transferred his flag from Agamemnon, 64 guns, (right) to the Captain, 74 (left). Also present were the captured ex-French l’Unité  (later to be renamed Surprise), foreground, on the second day of her first commission as a Royal Naval ship; Princess Royal, 98, flagship of Vice-Admiral Linzee; and the ubiquitous little brig Speedy, 14, just coming into the bay.
